Configure language switching (Summary)

Language switching provides the ability for the operator to change the language used to describe alarms. When the alarms are being designed, additional language support can be added by importing versions of the alarms strings in alternative languages. Language switching is configured in
FactoryTalk View Studio
.
To configure language switching at design time
  1. Develop the application in a base language.
  2. Export the application’s user-defined text strings. The Microsoft Excel format works the best for this.
If an Alarm and Event Summary object is part of the application, the following Alarm and Event Summary user-defined strings are included in the export file:
    • Button captions
    • Button tooltips
    • Column heading text
    • Status bar tooltips
  3. Translate the strings into each of the languages the application will use at runtime.
  4. Import each language file with the translated strings into the application separately.
