Alarm and Event Banner Properties - General tab
How do I open the Alarm and Event Banner Properties dialog box?
Properties are modified during design time. To open the
Alarm and Event Banner Properties
dialog box:- Open FactoryTalk View Studio.
- Add an Alarm and Event Banner object to a display.
- Right-click the Alarm and Event Banner object, and then clickProperties.
To change the appearance of the Alarm and Event Banner, configure the settings in the
General
tab of the Alarm and Event Banner Properties
dialog box. These properties are used to define how operators can interact with the alarm list, the behavior of the status bar and to specify the FactoryTalk View
command used to display the Alarm and Event Summary. Consider the following guidelines when configuring the appearance of the Alarm and Event Banner:
- Choose color for text and background that contrast well with each other.
- The height of the Alarm and Event Banner object is automatically adjusted, based on the font size and number of rows shown in theAlarm List.
- The button size on the Status Bar also determines the font size of the text displayed in the status bar. Use larger icon sizes for touch screen operation.
The following table provides details about the
Alarm List
settings.Setting | Description |

Background color | Defines the color used as a background for the alarm list display. The background color for individual alarm states is defined on the States tab. |
Selected item text color | The color of the text displayed when an item is selected in the alarm list. Choose a color that contrasts well with the highlight color configured for selected alarms. |
Selected item background color | The color of the background highlight used to identify a selected item in the alarm list. Choose a color that contrasts well with the background color of alarm list and the text color configured for selected alarms. |
Font | The font for the text in the rows of the alarm list. The height of the Alarm and Event Banner object is automatically adjusted for the font based on the font size and number of rows shown. Some applications might require the use of certain fonts, or you might prefer a specific font be used in your display. |
Number of rows | The number of rows for the alarm list displayed in the Alarm and Event Banner. |
Icon style | Select an icon style to show. |
Row double-click action | Defines the action that occurs when an item in the Alarm and Event Banner alarm list is double-clicked.

Show Border | To show the solid border line in the Alarm and Event Banner, select this check box. To hide the solid border line in the Alarm and Event Banner, clear this check box. |

Setting | Description |
---|---|
Font | Defines the font to use with the text in the status bar. The font size is set automatically based on the button size. |
Button size | Determines the height of the status bar, relative to the size of the whole Alarm and Event Banner object. The button size also determines the font size of the text displayed in the status bar. It is recommended that you use larger button sizes for touch screens. |
Show tooltips | Tooltips are available to provide additional details to the operator about the items on the status bar during runtime. However, if operators are familiar with the display, they can be an unnecessary distraction. |
Hide Bar | Used to hide the status bar. |
Alarm and Event Summary command | Used to specify a command that opens a display containing an Alarm and Event Summary object. Include a FactoryTalk View command that opens a display containing an Alarm and Event Summary object on the status bar to enable operators to quickly open the Alarm and Event Summary for more details during runtime. |
Display errors from operator action in a dialog | Used to control the display of error messages to operators during runtime. When an operator takes an action on a display an error message can be displayed to the operator if their action results in an error condition. If this option is not selected errors resulting from operator actions appear only in the FactoryTalk Diagnostics log file. |
Maintain selection when focus is lost | Keeps the focus on the last alarm selected in the list after a button is clicked. Important : Select this check box if you want to use the following functions:

Show the waiting for alarm and event message | Shows a message during runtime, indicating that the control is waiting for the alarm and event information. If this option is not selected, no message appears on the control while waiting for the alarm and event information. |
