PR13 - System Orchestration: A New Method to Deploy, Configure and Manage Servers

System orchestration is the automated configuration, management and coordination of computer systems, applications and services. Wouldn't it be great if your OT system could be managed automatically in the same way your work laptop is? The PlantPAx® team is currently in development of a product that can do just that. In this session, we cover how system provisioning can be applied to an OT environment, and what that means for the configuration and maintenance of your plant.

PR01 - Using State-Based PID Controller Analytics to Increase Uptime and Throughput

Most control loop performance monitoring (CLPM) solutions generate analytics based on a single, generic state of operation, providing information that lacks resolution. This presentation distinguishes state-based control loop analytics from traditional monitoring capabilities, and introduces Overall Controller Effectiveness (OCE) as a proxy for process availability. Case studies are included.

Implementing a Hybrid SCADA Solution Using PlantPAx 5.0 and 4.10

INCOG BioPharma, a Contract Development Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), needed a SCADA system for a greenfield facility. The originally designed solution needed to be morphed in real time throughout the life of the project, as equipment and schedule constraints changed what was feasible. The solution developed by E Tech Group serves as a use case to demonstrate the viability of using both PlantPAx 5.0 and 4.10. This total plant solution – including production, environmental monitoring, building management, and packaging (all on Rockwell), went from design to functional in less than a year and a half.

End to End Functional Safety Lifecycle in Brownfield Remote Operations

As the world transitions to industrial 4.0, more and more attention has been given to brownfield modification to harness the power of automation, while removing personnel from high risk environment without sacrificing safe, secure, reliable production. However, existing safeguards such as functional safety requires a relook to cover gaps that may pose inherent risk to remote operations if left unattended. In any brownfield modification, overall lifecycle costing and the project economics determine the do-abiity of remote operations and in recent years we have seen opreating cost under tight cost control due to the recent price volatility and post pandemic inflationary risk. In this paper, we will look into the thought process, engineering requirement, solutions to ensure brownfield safety system continues to power into the IR4.0 world.

PR17 - Model Predictive Control: Taking Your DCS from Chasing Disturbances to Achieving Autonomous Operations

Looking to drive more value out of your process control system? Struggling with operator knowledge gaps putting your plant operations at risk? Model Predictive Control (MPC) leverages your existing regulatory control to optimize your process by layering models above your DCS to achieve better production, quality and profitability. Hear from Rockwell Automation on real case studies where process customers have applied MPC to drive value. Learn how MPC can help empower your operators to go from managing minute-to-minute process disturbances to achieving autonomous operations.

PR27 - Exploring How the Digital Journey Can Transform Process Safety

Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) are applied to each Safety Instrumented Function (SIF), so when things go wrong, the SIS will work when we most need it to. SIF monitoring is required to ensure that the SIFS do not degrade over time. This session will discuss how the digital journey helps this task.

HOL02 - Introduction to the PlantPAx® Process Controller and Engineering Hands-on Lab

This lab will familiarize the user with the PlantPAx® system, Process Controller and PlantPAx® process library. The lab covers the steps necessary to start development of a PlantPAx® modern DCS project using the Rockwell Automation Library of Process Objects and the new workflow with embedded objects and Logix Designer application dialog boxes. The user will configure a controller and HMI application with pre-defined library routines and global objects. The lab also introduces new features such as tag-based alarms, Highly Integrated HART and configuring the new ownership and arbitration model and faceplates. This is a software-based lab will use FactoryTalk® Logix Echo to emulate the 1756-L85EP Process Controllers.

Food Maker Obsolete Batch Processing Upgrade Boosts Production and Quality by 30%

A large global-brand snack baker suffered low yield, poor dough quality and unplanned downtime created by the problematic batch control system for its 12 mixing stations and ingredient delivery systems. Polytron reverse engineered the old code and created a dynamic, realistic simulation of their plant to test the new control system. With an on-time start-up, downtime decreased by 25% and quality improved 30% with no bad batches.
