Course Purpose

This course is designed to provide a complete overview of the design and implementation of a batch project using FactoryTalk® Batch software.

This includes an introduction to batch processing and to the ANSI/ISA S88.01 Standard. FactoryTalk Batch system architecture, system operation, and system configuration are covered in detail.

Objectives

After completing this course, students should be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Use the recommended technique, layout a batch solution using project documentation (P&ID’s and existing SOP’s)
  • Use the Batch view and ActiveX Controls to create, monitor, and control batches
  • Use the Equipment Editor to create an equipment database (Area Model)
  • Use the Recipe Editor to create and validate both Class-based and Unit-based recipes
  • Configure the Batch Archiver and use Enhanced Report Package
  • Perform system administration tasks such as configuring the FactoryTalk® Batch Server, configuring FactoryTalk Batch security and enabling a remote Batch view machine
  • Design Controller based phases (equipment Phases) that are capable of communicating with the FactoryTalk Batch server
  • Use FactoryTalk Batch eProcedure to integrate manual phases into a FactoryTalk Batch System
  • Successfully use FactoryTalk Material Manager to define and use material based phases

Who Should Attend

This course is intended for supervisors, operators, formulators, and engineers who will be involved with the installation, setup and operation of a FactoryTalk Batch system.

Prerequisites

There are no required prerequisites; however a familiarity with Windows 2008 and the ANSI/ISA S88.01 Batch Standard would be helpful.

To enhance and facilitate the students’ learning experiences, the following materials are provided as part of the course package:

  • Student Manual includes the key concepts, definitions, examples, and activities presented in this course 
  • Lab Book provides learning activities and hands-on practice. Solutions are included after each exercise for immediate feedback. 

Hands-on Practice

Throughout this course, you will have the opportunity to practice the skills you have learned through a variety of hands-on exercises. These exercises focus on the skills introduced in each lesson.

Next Level Learning

It is highly recommended that engineers responsible for the success of their project implementation attend training in other software packages that touch or are touched by FactoryTalk Batch software. Such courses would include, but are not limited to:

  • Studio 5000 Logix Designer Level 3: Project Development course (CCP143)

Day 1

  • Introduction to the ANSI/ISA S88.01 Batch Standard
  • Introduction to FactoryTalk Batch
  • Using the legacy FactoryTalk View, new Batch view and ActiveX Controls to monitor and Control batches (Operational components) 

Day 2

  • Troubleshooting using the Batch view interfaces
  • Pre-configuration planning using a P&ID

Day 3

  • Building an Area Model using FactoryTalk Equipment Editor 

Day 4

  • Translating a Product definition into a Recipe
  • Configuring the FactoryTalk Recipe Editor, including:
    • The Basic Mechanics
    • Divergent Flow
    • Class Based Recipes
    • Enhanced Unit Binding
  • Configuring Batch Archiver & Enhanced Batch Reporting

Day 5

  • Equipment Phase – FactoryTalk Batch Communications:
    • Phase Design
    • Equipment Phase Instructions
  • Integrating manual phases and FactoryTalk Batch eProcedure
  • Integrating material Based Phases and the FactoryTalk Batch Material Manager
