This project demonstrates a real-time smart monitoring application using the HCC2 edge controller and a Reolink RLC-520A security camera. Leveraging the camera's built-in person detection — or optionally applying lightweight AI inference on the RTSP video stream — the system detects human presence in a designated zone. Upon detection, the HCC2 triggers a local output (e.g., LED or buzzer), logs the event via REST API and publishes alerts over OPC UA. The application showcases key HCC2 features, including digital I/O control, protocol interoperability, AI integration and local dashboard visualization, providing a powerful example of edge intelligence for industrial or safety automation scenarios.

The participants will learn how to set up and use the new material kitting module. Manufacturers benefit from a feature set that enables flexible manufacturing and efficiently delivers bundled components to the point of consumption. Material kitting is a process that allows manufacturers to provide planned or ad-hoc kits of components to the floor based on current demand and inventory availability. This process increases efficiency at the consumption point by allowing the operator to scan a single label, the kit label, instead of each inventory container. Material handlers can efficiently dispatch kits based on demand and priorities, making the process more streamlined and effective.

DMC, Inc. integrated Allen-Bradley® PLCs for transporting parts throughout a facility with a proprietary MES. Using a customer-provided C# library and Optix's C# tag monitoring, we developed back-end code to send location updates to the MES as parts moved. This interface also monitored equipment statuses for maintenance requests. The MES maintained a database with part information, which we accessed to pull destinations into the PLC. For visualization, we created tables in Optix to display part data, enabling searches for specific numbers and priorities, all while staying within the Rockwell ecosystem.

Several OEM customers produce burner systems as their primary product or as part of the equipment they build. These OEMs have looked to Rockwell Automation to provide an alternative to the third-party products used to manage the safety portion of burner control, or Burner Management System (BMS). Our OEM customers would like the same platform used for overall equipment control to be used for BMS without the need for third-party control hardware. A set of Safety Add-On Instructions targeting BMS applications has been created for this reason. This Add-On Instruction set is flexible enough to meet the needs of most OEM burner applications and easy to implement. To best serve our OEM customers, the BMS library provided carries suitable certification, such that the OEM's effort to achieve necessary certification for their final systems is reduced.
