Remove and Install a Fiber Transceiver (XT) for Frames 8...15

Replace a fiber transceiver (XT) with kit catalog number SK-RM-FTR1-F8-XT. Follow these steps to remove and install the fiber transceiver (XT).
  1. Review the product advisories in Before You Begin.
  2. Remove power from the system.
  3. Open the enclosure door.
  4. fiber transceiver circuit board fiber-optic port identification
    Port Name
    Description
    ACP0
Fiber transceiver port for the fiber-optic connection from ACP on the AC precharge control board.
    ACP1 / TAM
Fiber transceiver port for the fiber-optic connection from ACP on the second AC precharge control board (frames 13…15 only) or the fiber-optic connection from TAM on the torque accuracy module. Frame 13…15
    PowerFlex®
755TR drives and 755TM bus supplies cannot use a torque accuracy module (TAM).
    L0…L9
Fiber transceiver ports for the fiber-optic connections from CNTL on the power layer interface board in power modules that are used as line side converters.
    M0…M9
Fiber transceiver ports for the fiber-optic connections from CNTL on the power layer interface board in power modules that are used as motor side inverters.
  5. Remove the fiber-optic cables for the corresponding fiber transceiver circuit board from the cable management devices (A in the illustration) in the control pod.
  6. IMPORTANT: The minimum inside bend radius for fiber-optic cable is 50 mm (2 in.). Any bends with a shorter inside radius can permanently damage the fiber-optic cable. Signal attenuation increases as inside bend radius is decreased.

TIP: When all or many of the fiber-optic ports are used, it is easier to remove the fiber transceiver circuit board from the pod before removing the fiber-optic cables. However, it is possible to remove the fiber-optic cables without removing the boards.
IMPORTANT: The edge connectors on a fiber transceiver circuit board with XT contain dielectric grease. If you do not intend to replace a fiber transceiver circuit board, do not touch the edge connectors on the board.
  7. Loosen the two captive thumbscrews that secure the board and fiber-optic cables to the chassis and remove the board and cables.
example of how to remove a fiber transceiver circuit board from the control pod
  8. TIP:
The control pod is shown separated from the enclosure to clarify the instructions only.
  9. For each fiber-optic cable, remove the cable (B) from the transceiver (C).
  10. For each fiber transceiver board, open the transceiver latch (D) and pull the transceiver out of the port connector on the board.
example of how to remove the fiber-optic cables and transceivers from the fiber transceiver circuit board
  11. TIP: If the latch is obstructed and you cannot use your fingers to open it, use a small, screwdriver or other long, narrow tool to open the latch.
  12. Without bending the cable to a radius less than 50 mm (2 in.), fully insert the fiber-optic cable into the new transceiver.
example of how to insert a fiber-optic cable into a transceiver
  13. IMPORTANT: If before you install the new board, grease is removed from an edge connector or is contaminated, do not install the circuit board. You must clean and reapply grease to the affected edge connector or connectors. See Clean and Apply Dielectric Grease to a Fiber Transceiver Edge Connector (XT).
  14. Insert the transceiver with fiber-optic cable into the port on the board, until you hear an audible ‘click.’
example of how to insert a fiber transceiver with fiber-topic cable into the fiber port on the fiber transceiver board with XT
  15. If necessary, install the fiber transceiver circuit board with fiber-optic cables in the reverse order of removal.
