Point Sources

Use this field to allocate the point limit for licensed point source. For example, if you have a 1000 data points dedicated third-party license and you are using two third-party interfaces, Performance Monitor and PING, this field allows you to allocate 500 data points to each interface. This field also displays the number of data points available and in use for each interface type, including
FactoryTalk® Live Data
Interface.
TIP:
You must be a
FactoryTalk
administrator to change the server properties. After you change a license, it takes up to 20 minutes until the licenses are propagated to the server.
The following table shows the options under
Point Sources
.
Option
Description
Interface Type
Displays two interface types.
This field cannot be changed.
In Use
Displays the total number of data points configured with that specific point source.
This field cannot be changed.
IMPORTANT:
If any point source exceeds its licensed point limit, the
FactoryTalk Historian
server will cause all point creation (for all point sources) to stop unless the exception case is resolved. If you try to create a point before the problem is resolved, you will get the following error message: "PI-TC >>[Row 3] Error -2147220428 >> Failed to create point on server. [-12235] Exceeded Point Count allowance for Point-Source (FatalError)." To resolve the exception case, delete points until the number of points is within the licensed point limit for the point source.
Limit
Displays the total number of points available for assignment.
The table tracks the total number of data points that you assign (In Use) and the remaining data points available for assignment (Limit).
This field cannot be changed.
