Extractors

Extractors connect to source systems and push data in its original format to Cognite Data Fusion (CDF) as part of the data integration workflow. In
FactoryTalk DataMosaix SaaS
, you can register an extractor from the available source types to extract data.
FactoryTalk DataMosaix SaaS
 supports data extraction from Rockwell Automation product sources such as FactoryTalk Historian and FactoryTalk Optix.
FactoryTalk DataMosaix SaaS
 also supports extraction from other ODBC-compatible sources through a standard ODBC connection.
If your source type cannot be used with any of the available extractors, you can create custom extractors. Refer to the related information links to know how to set up and use these extractors.
First-Time Extractor Creation
When you create an extractor for the first time, to get a concise introduction and understand extractors better, click
First Time Overview
 located in the top left corner of the
Extractor Info Detail
 page. While configuring the extractor, you'll also find Learn More [] icon within each section (General Info, Pipeline, and Source Info). When you click on these icons, a quick overview specific to each section will be displayed.

Recommended Use of Custom Roles for M2M Applications and Extractors
Overview:
When a new M2M Application or Extractor is created, a default Applications/Extractors role is automatically assigned. These default roles are designed to support a broad set of use cases and therefore include more capabilities and permissions than may be required for a specific application or extractor.
Recommendation:
To follow the principle of least privilege and maintain proper Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), we strongly recommend creating and assigning a custom role that contains only the capabilities required for your specific use case.
