Functions
The Spectrum Controls’ HART protocol input module for the 1734 system provides ControlLogix controllers with 2/4-channels of analog input capability, and HART (Highway Addressable Remote Transducer protocol) communications. As a HART master, it provides communication with eight HART field devices without external HART bridge devices or hand-held communicators.
This Analog+HART I/O module offers:
  • Simultaneous analog current measurements and HART data on each channel.
  • User-selectable range type (current or voltage), process and rate alarms, under/over-range detection, time-stamping, and filter frequencies.
  • Full HART Read/Write Master capability, with "auto acquisition” of attached slave devices.
  • Ability to program and monitor HART devices from a single workstation.
  • Processor independent messaging capability.
  • Support from RSLogix5000 programming software for installation and operation.
  • User calibration of analog functionality
Field Interface
  • 2/4 analog inputs (differential) with 16-21 bit resolution.
  • Configurable input type: Current 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA ; Voltage 0-5V, 1-5V, 0-10V, ±10V
  • Configurable input ADC Filter: 50-480 Hz
  • Over-voltage protection: Voltage 30Vdc, Current 8Vdc
  • Each channel provides selectable wire-off input, over-range, and under-range detection.
  • Field connector and cables:
    • Standard 36-pin removable terminal block; 1756-TBCH (screw) or 1756-TBS6H (press); ordered from Rockwell Automation; RTB mechanical keying.
    • Refer to the module’s "Owner’s Guide” for recommended shielded twisted-pair cable, a list of standard pre-wired cables from Rockwell Automation, and complete wiring recommendations.

The module Identity includes the following Device attributes ( refer to "EDS File” below):
Data
The following module data types and tags are created by the AOP:
  • Input Tag (92 bytes)
    • HART Dynamic Variables; Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Fourth
    • HART device codes, extended status, ASCII message descriptors
    • HART multiplexed auto-acquisition device data
    • Analog values; 32 bit IEEE floating point
    • Status and Diagnostics
  • Output Tag - (0 bytes)
  • Configuration Tag (392 bytes) - configurable through the AOP configuration tabs.
Other tags are created by the user for de-multiplexed input data, message buffers, etc. To minimize the effort creating these additional tags, and the potential for errors, import or copy the tags from the Sample Project file (see "Sample Projects” section below). Refer to the "Owner’s Guide” for a detailed description of the tags.
Note
: IO Tags are updated by the controller asynchronous to its ladder-logic program scan. When "block integrity” of this data is important, ladder execution can be synchronized to tag updates using application level "handshaking” or CPS (synchronous copy) ladder instructions. Refer to the "Owner’s Guide” for recommended methods.
Communication
1734 Backplane Communication
  • Connected producer/consumer multicast IO communication
    • RPI = 100ms default, 10-750ms range.
    • Support for "listen only” IO connections and also multiple owner-controllers.
    • Local chassis operation, or Remote chassis operation (over CIP network).
  • Unconnected messaging from controller (MSG instruction) or from a CIP network client.
    • CIP messages to the HART module
    • HART pass-through messages to HART device; any HART command
NOTE
: Refer to detailed protocols and MSG examples described in the module’s "Owner’s Guide”, and examples in the module’s RSLogix5000 Sample Projects.
Field-side Comm: HART Primary Master
  • Polls all slave devices; 6.5 second average poll for all 2/4 HART channels
  • HART multi-drop is not supported
  • Compatible with HART secondary master (hand-held configurator)
Bus Power
From the 1734 backplane: 0.300 Amp at 5.1VDC, and 0.070 Amp at 24VDC.
