Replace a tag or a text string

After you find text strings, follow these steps to replace items with a new tag or text string.
To replace a tag or a text string
  1. Open the Replace dialog box.
    From the tool bar, click Replace tool or select
    Replace
    from the
    Tools
    menu.
  2. Type the text string in Find what, or identify the tag to search for.
    1. Click the browse button (Browse button) next to
      Find what
      .
    2. From the
      Tag Browser
       window, navigate to the correct folder in the left pane, and then select the tag in the right pane.
    3. Click
      OK
       to save the selection and close the browser.
    You can click the down arrow in this field to select from previous searches.
  3. Type the text string in Replace with, or identify the tag that will replace the found tag.
    1. Click the browse button (Browse button) next to
      Replace with
      .
    2. From the Tag Browser, navigate to the correct folder in the left pane, and then select the tag in the right pane.
    3. Click
      OK
       to save the selection and close the browser.
  4. If needed, identify the type of product components to search in Find within.
    1. Click the browse button (Browse button) next to
      Find within
      .
    2. From the
      Find within
       dialog box, select the product component types to be searched.
    3. Click
      OK
       to save the selection and close the dialog box.
    All components are selected by default.
  5. If you are using a network distributed application, identify the HMI servers of the search in Find where.
    1. Click the browse button (Browse button) next to
      Find where
      .
    2. From the Find where dialog box, select the specific HMI servers to be searched.
    3. Click
      OK
      to save the selection and close the dialog box.
    All servers are selected by default.
  6. Identify the word search limitations in
    Find Options.
  7. Select the
    Direction
    in which to search. Components are searched according to the defined search order.
  8. To replace items, select
    Confirm replacement
     if needed, then:
    • Click
      Replace
      to replace each item individually in the search order, or
    • Click
      Replace All
      to replace all found items.
Click the
View Log File
button to show a text file of the results of the
Replace
,
Replace All
, or
Undo
functions.
TIP:
  • To undo replacements, click
    Undo Replace
    .
  • Only the last Replace, or Replace All action can be undone.
  • Undo will not be successful if a component has been manually edited after the replace action.
