Create a configuration for FactoryTalk View ME applications

Use the
Communication Setup
editor to create the communications configuration file that will be downloaded to the runtime terminal with the application file. If you intend to use hardware devices, first register device description files using the Device Description File Installation Tool.
To create a configuration file
  1. Open a
    FactoryTalk View ME
    application using
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    . The
    FactoryTalk Linx
data server appears with a server icon at the top of the Explorer. This is the data server that the application will use on the runtime terminal. A
    FactoryTalk View ME
    application can only contain one
    FactoryTalk Linx
data server, which is automatically added to the application when it is created.
  2. Double-click
    Communication Setup
    to open the
    Communication Setup
    editor.
  3. If the
    Communication Setup
editor is being run for the first time, a list of options for initializing the
    Runtime (Target) tab
    configuration is presented:
    • Create a new configuration
. This option initializes and displays the Runtime (Target) Tab with default configuration settings.
    • Import a runtime configuration file
. This option browses and imports a Runtime (Target) tab configuration file from a previously created application into the current application.
    • Export a runtime configuration file
. This option saves the current state of the Runtime (Target) tab configuration, and generates a Runtime (Target) tab configuration file into a specified folder.
      TIP:
This option is not available if the current application has no runtime configuration to export.
    • Copy the configuration that is currently running on this workstation
. This option copies the local workstation configuration (that is, the contents of the
      Design (Local)
      tab) to the
      Runtime (Target)
      tab.
Now you may add drivers, add devices, and create shortcuts on both the Design (Local) and Runtime (Target) tabs.
