Add an OPC UA Server
Add an
OPC
UA Server to a FactoryTalk Linx
OPC
UA Connector to provide additional tags to FactoryTalk
applications. Each
FactoryTalk Linx
OPC
UA Connector supports a maximum of 20 OPC
UA Servers. For more considerations, please see FactoryTalk Linx
OPC
UA Connector considerations. Prerequisites
Adding an
OPC
UA Server requires these permissions for the application or area:- Common > Create Children
- Common > Write
- Common > Read
To add an
OPC
UA Server- InFactoryTalk Administration ConsoleExplorer, right-click an existing connector, then selectProperties. If a connector does not exist, then inExplorer, right-click an application or area, then selectAdd New Server >.OPCUA Server (FactoryTalk Linx OPC UA Connector)
- In, in the left pane, selectFactoryTalk LinxOPCUA ConnectorOPC UA Servers.
- InOPC UA Servers, selectAdd, then enter theOPCUA Server properties in the right pane. The properties categories display can be expanded and contracted using the arrow next to the property category.
- UnderGeneralcomplete these items:
- Name:Enter a unique name for theOPCUA Server. The server name displays in theFactoryTalkapplication tree and is included in the full tag path for all tags provided by the server.
- (optional)Description:Enter a description for theOPCUA Server.
- Endpoint URL:Enter the full network path or select browse to select theOPCUA Server. The path must be in the formatopc.tcp://hostname_or_ip:port/Endpoint/Namewherehostname_or_ip,port, and/Endpoint/Nameare replaced with the hostname or IP address, port number, and endpoint name of anOPCUA Server and its local discovery service. The firewall on theOPCUA Server must allow incoming connections to the selected port for the connection to succeed. If theOPCUA server is located on the same computer as the connector enteropc.tcp://localhost:port.If no port is specified, theFactoryTalk LinxOPCUA Connector will attempt to connect to port 4880.TIP:Typically anOPCUA Server identifies its Endpoint URL within the server management interface. If the server or endpoint cannot be browsed, copy this URL from the server and enter it manually.
- UnderSecuritycomplete these items:ForSecurity Policy, use either:
- None- No security policy is enforced. (default)
- Basic128RSA15- This algorithm has been deprecated by the OPC Foundation and is no longer considered secure. It is provided for use with older systems that require encryption but cannot update to the newer policy.
- Basic256- This algorithm has been deprecated by the OPC Foundation and is no longer considered secure. It is provided for use with older systems that require encryption but cannot update to the newer policy.
- Basic256SHA256- Recommended. Appropriate for environments with high security needs.ForSecurity Mode, use either:
- None- No security mode is enforced. (default)
- Sign. Requires the communication between the connector and the server to be signed so that the sender of the data is authenticated. With this setting selected, if the signature is invalid or not present the incoming data is rejected.
- SignAndEncrypt. Requires the communication between the connector and the server to be signed, so that the sender of the data is authenticated, and encrypted, so that it cannot be read by a client without the corresponding key. With this option selected, if the signature is invalid or not present or if the decryption key is not present the incoming data is rejected.
- UnderAuthentication Settings, select either:
- Anonymous. To use an anonymous connection to theOPCUA Server
- User name & Password. Specify the user name and password to use to log onto theOPCUA Server.IMPORTANT:Modifying the user name and password requires usingFactoryTalk Administration Consoleon the same workstation as theOPCUA Connector (as configured inConnector Settings).
- If theOPCUA Server includes array data, underArray Data Access, select either:
- Operate on entire array at once (all elements)-defaultThe entire array will be used each time the connector accesses data from the array.
- Access subset of array (indexed elements)Use this option to access data from specific array elements. This option improves performance and is recommended for use if supported by theOPCUA Server.
- Write operations are performed according to the array data access option selected in the previous step.
- IfOperate on entire array at once (all elements)was selected:The entire array is read into memory, the elements that were modified are changed, and then the entire array is written back to theOPCUA Server. Depending on the update period of theOPCUA Server, there is a potential that the data on theOPCUA Server changed after it was read. These changes will be overwritten by the previously read data, which could lead to some data inconsistencies.
- IfAccess subset of array (indexed elements)was selected:The array is not read into memory. The client identifies the elements in the array to which it wants to write values and theOPCUA Connector writes the values to the server. This method is more efficient because it doesn't require reading and writing of the entire array data. Using this mode is preferred because it only modifies the elements explicitly directed by the client and does not introduce the risk of data inconsistencies.Using this mode requires that theOPCUA Server support indexing so that values are written to the correct elements. Before using this mode in a production system, test the results to confirm that the values are updating as expected.
- To include events related to writing data to tag values in the diagnostic log, underDiagnostic Logging, selectLog diagnostic message on tag write.
- When finished, selectOK.
