RA Device Driver

Observe these guidelines and reference information when working with the RA Device Driver.

Supported devices

The RA Device Driver in
FactoryTalk® Optix™
enables communication with
PowerFlex®
drives over
EtherNet/IP™
.
These
PowerFlex
drive models are supported:
  • PowerFlex
    525 (PF525)
  • PowerFlex
    755 (PF755), including these variants:
    • PF755TS
    • PF755TR
    • PF755TL
    • PF755 TM Bus Supply
    • PF755 TM-CBI
  • PowerFlex
    6000T (PF6000T)
  • PowerFlex
    7000 (PF7000)
Validation is limited to DPI Port 0 parameter access. Parameter availability and behavior vary by model, drive configuration, and firmware.
Fault and warning timestamps are currently not supported.

Tag import

The RA Device Driver supports online tag import for
PowerFlex
drives.
Tags can be imported:
  • Directly from the drive
  • By using the integrated Tag Importer interface in
    FactoryTalk Optix
This simplifies configuration and ensures consistency between the device and the project.

Supported data types

PowerFlex
drives communicate through an embedded
EtherNet/IP
adapter, which the RA Device Driver uses to perform read and write operations.
The following table shows the mapping between data types used in
FactoryTalk Optix
and the data types supported by
PowerFlex
.
Supported data types
Data Type
Description
BOOL
8-bit value – low bit is true or false
CONTAINER
32-bit parameter value – sign extended if necessary
DINT
32-bit signed integer
INT
16-bit signed integer
LWORD
64-bit unsigned integer
REAL
32-bit floating point
SHORT_STRING
Struct of: USINT length indicator (L); USINT[L] characters
SINT
8-bit signed integer
STRUCT
Structure name only – no size and elements
TCHAR
8-bit or 16-bit character
Unsigned integer types
Data Type
Description
UDINT
32-bit unsigned integer
UINT
16-bit unsigned integer
USINT
8-bit unsigned integer

Runtime communication

The RA Device Driver supports runtime communication with
PowerFlex
drives, including:
  • Read operations for controller data and parameters
  • Write operations where supported
This allows real-time monitoring and control of
PowerFlex
devices directly from
FactoryTalk Optix
applications.
