Create a tag

On the explorer, go to the System Icon

view, or the Library Icon

view.

Right-click a controller, a program, a routine, or an add-on instruction, and then select

Tags and parameters

TIP: You can also select Tags icon

View tags and parameters: (item name)

In last row of the Tag Editor, select

Add Tag

A row for the new tag is added.

Enter the parameters for the tag:

Name

. The name of the tag or program parameter.

Data Type

. The name of the data type. If the data type does not appear, browse to open the

Select Data Type

dialog, select a data type from the list, and then select

Apply

. For more information, see Select a data type.

Value

. Enter the value of the tag.

(optional)

Description

. Enter a description of the tag to indicate the purpose of the tag or the latest change to the tag.

Scope

. The scope of the tag is the item selected in

System

, (

Routine

Program

Style

. For a BOOL, SINT, INT, DINT, or REAL tag, select a display style to define how the tag value appears. Styles include DECIMAL, BINARY, OCTAL, and HEX. The default is DECIMAL.

Usage

. Select a usage type -- LOCAL, INPUT, OUTPUT, or INOUT. The default is LOCAL.

TIP:

Usage is unavailable for tag members. Changes to Usage update the tag definition.

For the

Usage

column, only Input and Output parameters can be referenced by a parameter of another program.

When copying and pasting an Input, Output, or InOut parameter in the Tag Editor, it retains all properties of the tag.
