Enable FactoryTalk Remote Access for FactoryTalk Design Studio

Configure communication between
FactoryTalk Remote Access
and
FactoryTalk Design Studio
by creating and configuring the
FactoryTalk Remote Access
FTDS
user.
NOTE: To work together, the instances of
FactoryTalk Remote Access
and
FactoryTalk Design Studio
you are using must be entitled within the same organization in
FactoryTalk Hub
.
FactoryTalk Design Studio
can only communicate with the
FactoryTalk Remote Access
instance in the same
FactoryTalk Hub
organization. See Entitlements in the FactoryTalk Remote Access Online Help.
You must have entitlements allocated for using
FactoryTalk Remote Access
.

    FactoryTalk Remote Access
endpoint devices enable secure connectivity to your controllers. Granting endpoint access to the FTDS user enables
    FactoryTalk Design Studio
to communicate through the endpoint to on-premises controllers. To deploy to an on-premise controller with
    FactoryTalk Design Studio
, the controller must be accessible on the same network as a
    FactoryTalk Remote Access
    endpoint device.
For more information on how to add an endpoint device, see
    FactoryTalk Remote Access Manager Tools
in FactoryTalk Remote Access Help. For this step, look at the help for
    Device Registration to Domain
    .
  7. Select the endpoint to which you want to assign permissions for the enabled
    FTDS
    user.
An information panel opens on the right side of the screen.
  8. Select the arrow next to

    user.
  10. Select the plus sign next to the user labeled
    FTDS
to add the user then close the
    Add Permissions
dialog by selecting the x at the top right of the box.
    The
    FTDS
user appears in the Permissions list.
  11. Select the
    FTDS
    user.
  12. Under
    Permissions Operations
, select the arrow to expand
    Interactive Access
    .
  13. Select the
    Allow
    box next to
    Network Access (VPN)
    .
    TIP: To give the
    FTDS
user permission to all endpoint devices in the organization, highlight the top level in your folder structure and repeat this process.
    The
    FTDS
user has permission to access the selected endpoint device.
FactoryTalk Design Studio
can now use the
FTDS
user to communicate with devices connected to
FactoryTalk Remote Access
endpoints. Next you must configure the endpoints in
FactoryTalk Design Studio
. Go to Connect FactoryTalk Design Studio to FactoryTalk Remote Access.
