Configuration
General
All module setup parameters are programmed through the Output registers. The module will power up with a Configuration Error and will have to be configured before starting any operations. When the Configuration Mode flag is set in the output registers, the module enters Configuration Mode, which provides the ability to match the 3401 & 3401L module to the stepper system without having to set any switches. The configuration file consists of eight 16-bit words. Refer to the "3401 Module Manual” for details of the configuration process. When switching from Configuration Mode to Command Mode, the position will become invalid and the current position will be zero.
The 3401 & 3401L modules do not retain their parameters through power-down, so they must be configured at every power-up. A non-volatile copy of data is retained by the Logix controller.
Add-On Profile (AOP)
The 3401 & 3401L AOP provides automatic generation of module data types, Input and Output tags, and controller connections. Configuration is done through setup parameters that are located in the Output tags.
NOTE
: When using the Add On Profile, the Module Info Tab and MSG instructions
(service types: Device WHO and Get Attribute Single to Identity Object attribute #7 Product Name,
see MSG instruction image below) will not function correctly when used with 3401 and 3401L modules that have a serial number below 04110132.
The AOP Module Info tab displays an error dialog with the fields blank after the Product Name heading.
The MSG instruction string length field that precedes the Product Name string is incorrect in the reply buffer.

Generic Module Profile
Prior to the availability of the AOP, this module was supported by the 1734 generic module profile (1734-MODULE). When changing to the AOP from an existing project that used the generic profile, it will be necessary to delete the existing generic module profile (which includes generic tags) and any associated ladder logic prior to adding the AOP.
Input / Output Words
The the 3401 & 3401L modules use six (16 bit) input words and eight (16 bit) output words.
RPI Time
Because the AMCI 3401 & 3401L are Specialty I/O modules, they will only use direct connections to communicate with the scanner module. Although any value down to 3ms can be selected, AMCI does not recommend values below 10ms. Additionally, to avoid overloading the 1734 Adapter, Rockwell Automation recommends that a RPI time of 50ms or greater be used for all direct communication modules.
