High-speed Counter (HSC) Input

The HSC input interfaces with sensors and incremental encoders.
One signed 32-bit counter and other extended counter functionality are provided. Three high-speed differential inputs (A, B, and Z) are available on the module to use with the counter. You can wire the inputs to use differential line drive output devices, for example, differential or single-ended encoders. You can use sensors, such as inductive or optical sensors, or simple pulse generators.
The counter can operate in the following modes:
  • Count/Direction (internal or external)
  • Up/Down Pulses
  • Quadrature (X1, X2, or X4 counting modes)
The operating mode of a count channel determines how the A and B inputs cause a counter channel to increment or decrement.
Frequency information is calculated and continuously updated with the count data.
You configure the HSC mode in the Device Definition dialog in the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application. For more information, see Device Definition.
