Module Properties - General for 1756-DNB, 1788-DNBO, 1784-PCIDS
Use this tab to create/view module properties for the 1756-DNB or 1788-DNBO DeviceNet scanners, or the 1784-PCIDS/A DeviceNet PCI scanner.
On this tab, you can:
- view the type and description of the scanner being created
- view the vendor of the scanner being created
- enter the name of the scanner
- enter a description for the scanner
- enter the slot number where the scanner resides
- enter connection parameters for the module
- view the status the controller has about the module (you can only view the status while online)
Parameters
Type
Displays the type and description of the module being created (read only).
Vendor
Displays the vendor of the module being created (read only).
Name
Enter the name of the module.
The name must be IEC 1131-3 compliant. This is a required field and must be completed; otherwise you receive an error message when you exit this tab. An error message is also displayed if a duplicate name is detected, or you enter an invalid character. If you exceed the maximum name length allowed by the software, the extra character(s) are ignored.
Description
Enter a description for the module here, up to 128 characters. You can use any printable character in this field. If you exceed the maximum length, the software ignores any extra character(s).
Slot
Enter the slot number where the module resides. The values range from 0 to 1 less than the chassis size (e.g., if you have a 4-slot chassis, the values are from 0 to 3). If you enter a slot number that is out of this range, you will receive an error message when you go to apply your changes.
The slot number cannot be changed when online.
Input Size
This feature allows you to size the amount of input data according to the needs of your application. This allows you to limit the amount of input data in the connection especially in cases where you are returning data across a ControlNet connection. The default value is 124.
Output Size
This feature allows you to size the amount of output data according to the needs of your application. This allows you to limit the amount of output data in the connection especially in cases where you are returning data across a ControlNet connection. The default value is 123.
Status Size
This feature allows you to size the amount of status data according to the needs of your application. The status data for this module includes information concerning the module's ability to exchange DeviceNet messages with other nodes. Enter the desired size of the status data for the connection. The default value is 32.
Revision
Select the appropriate revision information for your module.
The revision is divided into the major revision and minor revision. The major revision is used to indicate the revision of the interface to the module. Valid values are in the range from 0 to 127. The minor revision is used to indicate the firmware revision. Valid values are in the range from 0 to 255, with 1 being the default value.
TIP:
You can change the Major Revision for a 1756-DNB module offline or online; when you do this, the revision information is immediately changed (i.e., you do not need to click Apply).
Electronic Keying
Electronic Keying
Electronic Keying reduces the possibility of using the wrong device in a control system. Electronic Keying compares the device defined in the project to the installed device. If keying fails, a fault occurs.
These attributes are compared:
Attribute | Description |
Vendor | The device manufacturer. |
Device Type | The general type of the device, for example, digital I/O module. |
Product Code | The specific type of device. The Product Code maps to a catalog number. |
Major Revision | A number that represents the functional capabilities of a device. |
Minor Revision | A number that represents behavior changes in the device. |
