Runtime as a service

Run a deployed
FactoryTalk Optix Application
as a Windows service.

Overview

In the runtime-as-a-service mode,
FactoryTalk Optix
runs the deployed application as a Windows service, without the need for a user to log in. The service starts when the runtime device starts and automatically runs the deployed application.
The runtime-as-a-service mode supports only
FactoryTalk Optix Applications
with web presentation engines. You can access such applications through a web browser. You can also use applications without a web presentation engine if an application does not require a graphical user interface (GUI).
TIP: For more information, see
Presentation engines
in FactoryTalk Optix Help.

Deployment

FactoryTalk Optix Applications
in the runtime-as-a-service mode are deployed to
C:\ProgramData\Rockwell Automation\FactoryTalk Optix\FTOptixRuntimeService
You can access the application in the runtime-as-a-service mode from a device that can reach the runtime device through Ethernet IP.
IMPORTANT:
Rockwell Automation
recommends deploying
FactoryTalk Optix Applications
that run in runtime-as-a-service mode through
FactoryTalk Optix Studio
and with FactoryTalk Optix Runtime Tools. Following this recommendation helps ensure that all access privileges are configured correctly.
For more information, see Deploy a FactoryTalk Optix application.

Installation

To use Runtime as a service mode, install the FactoryTalk Optix Runtime Tools on the runtime device with the
Run FactoryTalk Optix as a Service
option selected. For more information, see Configure runtime as a service.
TIP: To change the runtime mode between the default runtime-application mode and runtime-as-a-service mode, you need to reinstall FactoryTalk Optix Runtime Tools.
