Add a data collection interface

A data collection interface is used to collect data (tags) from data sources, such as ControlLogix controllers, PLCs, and third-party controllers, and pass it to the
FactoryTalk Historian
 server.
To add a data collection interface
  1. Right-click the
    FactoryTalk Historian
     server and select
    New Data Collection Interface
    .
  2. In the
    New Data Collection Interface
     dialog, enter the values in the following table:
    Option
    Description
    Interface type
    Display the supported interface type. This release of
    FactoryTalk Historian SE
     supports only the FactoryTalk Live Data data collection interface.
    Name
    Displays the interface name
    FTLD
    .
    This field cannot be changed.
    ID
    Display the ID of the interface. If you create more than one interface connected to the same
    FactoryTalk Historian
     server, each interface must be assigned a unique interface ID.
    TIP:
    By default, when a new
    FactoryTalk Historian
     server is added, the FactoryTalk Live Data data collection interface (FTLD1) is created along with a name and an ID.
    Description
    Enter a description for the data collection interface. For example, use this box to describe a component's location, identify a contact person or number if there is a failure, or track changes or version information. The descriptions cannot exceed 255 characters.
    Computer hosting the interface
    From the list, select the computer name on which the data collection interface is installed. The
    FactoryTalk Historian SE
     server name and the computer name on which the server is hosted are displayed below this field.
    Service startup type
    Specify how the data collection service will react when the computer on which the data collection interface is installed is turned on.
    • Automatic
      : (Default) The data collection service starts automatically when the computer starts.
    • Manual
      : The data collection service must be started manually.
    • Disabled
      : Help prevent the system, the user, or any dependent service from starting the service.
    Historian server
    Displays the
    FactoryTalk Historian SE
     server name. If the
    FactoryTalk Historian
     server is hosted on a collective, displays the name of the collective.
    This field cannot be changed.
    Launch Interface Configuration Utility
    Launch the PI Interface Configuration Utility. Use this utility to configure redundant interfaces, buffering, or disconnected startup. To learn more about the Interface Configuration Utility, select
    Help
     on the Interface Configuration Utility's main menu.
    Scan Class
    Enter a period
    : Specify a new period of the scan class.
    Remove scan class Remove the selected scan class.
    IMPORTANT:
    Deleting scan classes can adversely affect the operation of existing tags, which are closely related to scan rates for
    FactoryTalk Historian
     tags. Scan classes should be adjusted only by
    FactoryTalk Historian
     System Managers who are fully aware of the
    FactoryTalk Historian
     system configuration and the effects of any such changes.
  3. Select
    Apply
     to save the changes without closing the dialog or select
    OK
     to save the changes and close the dialog.
