Configure the safety task
Each safety application must contain one, and only one, safety task. FactoryTalk Design
Studio creates a safety task within a safety application when you add a safety
controller. For more details on safety tasks, see the
Develop Safety Applications in
FactoryTalk Design Studio Programming Manual
(publication FTDS-PM001).Use the
Properties
pane to edit the properties of the safety task. - On the explorer bar, select
Execution. - Expand the folder of the controller.
- Expand theTasksfolder and select the safety task.
- InPropertieson theConfigurationtab, configure these settings:
- Type. The safety task is defined by having its Type property set toSafety.
- Period. Enter the frequency to perform the safety task in whole milliseconds from 1 to 500. Reducing the Period rate increases how often the task performs. Increasing the frequency causes other tasks in the controller to perform at a slower rate.
- Priority. Enter the priority level of the safety task. Lower numbers indicate higher priorities for tasks. A task assigned a priority of 1 is a higher priority task than a task assigned a priority of 15.
- Watchdog. The safety task watchdog is the maximum time that is allowed from the start of the safety task to its completion. If a safety task watchdog timeout occurs, a nonrecoverable safety fault is generated in the controller.
TIP: You cannot inhibit a safety task or selectDisable automatic output processing to reduce task overhead. - InProperties, select theProgram Scheduletab and configure the schedule:
- UnderScheduled, drag and drop programs in the list to change the execution order of the programs.
- UnderUnscheduled, drag and drop programs into theScheduledlist.
- SelectApply.
