Configure the reporting option

Enable
FactoryTalk® Event Archiver
 by configuring the
FactoryTalk Batch
 Server to use
FactoryTalk Event Archiver
 as the reporting program. The reporting option is required whether using reporting services or not.
TIP:
Review the following:
  • If the
    Event Journal Signatures
     option is enabled, specify
    End of Batch Archiving
    . Enable event journal signatures by right-clicking the application or area name and selecting
    Properties
    . Then, in the
    FactoryTalk Batch Services Properties
     dialog, select the
    General
     tab and select the
    Enable Event Journal Signatures
     checkbox in the
    Event Files
     section. This function detects unauthorized changes to electornic batch records (.evt or .evtj files).
  • Data added to the batch event journal files (
    .evt
    ) by the
    ADDEVENT
     execute cannot be filtered out.
IMPORTANT:
The date format used for the event journal file’s LclTime is YYYY.MM.DD HH:MM:SS and is not configurable.
To configure the reporting option:
  1. Open the
    FactoryTalk Administration Console
     Explorer.
  2. To add a new server, right-click an application or area name and select
    Add New Server
    FactoryTalk Batch Server
    . For an existing server, right-click the server and select
    Properties
     to open the
    FactoryTalk Batch Services Properties
     dialog.
  3. Select the
    Batch Reporting
     tab.
  4. Select the
    Archive method
     dropdown list and choose your archive method.
    Batch Reporting Archive Methods
    Method
    Description
    End of Batch Archiving
    This option defers control of batch reporting to
    FactoryTalk
     Archiver and only performs batch reporting upon removal of the batch from the
    BatchList
    .
    For this method, in Windows Services, you must stop the Archiver Service and set the
    Startup Type
     to
    Manual
    .
    Incremental Archiving
    This option defers control of batch archiving to
    FactoryTalk
     Archiver and performs batch reporting at user-defined intervals during batch execution.
    For this method, in Windows Services, you must set the
    Startup Type
     for the Archiver Service to
    Automatic
    .
    No Archiving - Queue Maintained
    This option has no batch reporting or archiving application, but maintains a queue of unarchived event journal files.
    No Archiving - No Queue
    This option has no batch reporting or archiving application, and does not maintain a queue of unarchived event journal files. This is the default option.
    TIP: Do not use this option if you have a custom archiver or are writing to the queue file.
  5. Configure the
    Archiver properties
     that define how
    FactoryTalk
     Archiver writes batch record data to a SQL table in the
    BatchHistoryEx
     database.
    None of the
    Archiver properties
     are accessible for the
    No Archiving - Queue Maintained
     or
    No Archiving - No Queue
     methods.
    To change the configuration set during product installation, in the
    Archiver properties
     section fill in the following fields:

    Database connection string
    This optional field defines the Data Source Name (DSN) and ODBC connection string that
    FactoryTalk
     Archiver uses to locate the
    BatchHistoryEx
     database.
    Example:
    ODBC;DSN=FactoryTalk Batch Events;UID=installer;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Factorytalk Batch Archiver;WSID=2019DCPMA0;DATABASE=BatchHistoryEx;TrustServerCertificate=Yes;
    This field has a maximum length of 512 characters. The default value is
    ODBC;
    .
    TIP: You can also use the
    FactoryTalk
     Archiver Setup application to write the ODBC connection string to the
    Database connection string
     field. Go to
    Start
    Rockwell Software
    Archiver Setup
    . In the
    Machine Data Source
     tab, select
    FactoryTalk Batch Events
     and click
    OK
    .
    Table name
    This optional field defines the name of the SQL table in the
    BatchHistoryEx
     database, where
    FactoryTalk
     Archiver writes batch record data.
    This field has a maximum length of 128 characters. The default value is
    BHBatchhis
    .
    Maximum records per transaction
    This required field defines the maximum number of records that
    FactoryTalk
     Archiver writes to the
    BatchHistoryEx
     database at each record transfer.
    This field has a minimum integer value of 1 and a maximum integer value of 10,000. The default value is
    75
    .
    Incremental period
    These fields are only enabled when you select the
    Incremental Archiving
     method. These fields define the interval at which batch reporting occurs during batch execution.
    The interval must be a minimum of 5 seconds or 1 minute (depending on the selected
    Period units
     value).

    Maximum log file size (MB)
    FactoryTalk
     Archiver logs all archiving activities to a log file (
    Batcharc.log
    ). This required field defines the maximum size (in MB) of the log file. When the log file reaches maximum size, the log acts in a circular manner, with new records overwriting the oldest records.
    This field has a minimum integer value of 1 and a maximum integer value of 1,024. The default value is
    10
    .
    Delete the event journal file after it is fully archived.
    Select this option to allow deletion of the
    .evt
     or
    .evtj
     files after
    FactoryTalk
     Archiver has stored the data in the ODBC database.
    TIP: Deleting files after archiving is not a reversible action and is not recommended.
  6. Select
    Apply
     to save the data in the
    Batch Reporting
     tab.
  7. Select the
    Archived Events
     tab.
    TIP:
    Material Server Filters display only if
    Material Manager
     is installed.

  8. Select the data to archive from the event journal files (
    .evt
    ) for the batch, and then select
    OK
     to save the data in each tab of the
    FactoryTalk Batch Services Properties
     dialog and close the dialog.
