Overview

This course provides information on the importance of proper lubrication in machinery and equipment, including selection, sampling, maintenance, and testing. Instruction will be provided on ways to improve the performance, reliability, and lifespan of machinery and equipment.

Objectives

   Explain the basic principles of lubrication, including oil and grease characteristics, lubricant additives, lubricant selection, and lubricant storage and handling. 

   Explain the basic fundamentals of lubrication sampling.

   Explain the basic methods of maintaining oil and grease lubricated systems including purification and filtration techniques. 

   Explain the basic failure mode indicators, including general lubricant problems, lubricant contamnants, and abnormal wear mechanisms and symptoms.

   Explain the basic principles of lubricant testing and analysis, including field tests and laboratory oil condition testing.
