Protected Operations for HART Devices
Enter and Exit Protection Mode
The HART device enters Protection Mode as soon as the connection to the device is
established and exits Protection Mode as soon as the connection to the device is
closed.
Restrictions Imposed By Protection Mode
Protection Mode prevents access to services that are not required after the HART
device is configured and in normal operation. Protection Mode disables features that
can make the device vulnerable to disruptive actions. By doing so, Protection Mode
helps to reduce the attack surface.
When the HART device is in Protection Mode, the device prevents execution of the
following tasks:
- Perform remote device resets
- Change RPI parameters
- Connect device or change data format
- Change Electronic Keying parameters
