Short Circuit Detection
Short Circuit Detection helps prevent damage to the output that can result when more
current is present at the output than it can handle.
A short circuit condition can cause an increase in temperature and trigger a thermal
shutoff to prevent damage to the output.
IMPORTANT:
Short Circuit Detection is not supported when using PWM/PTO.
When a short circuit condition is detected, the following occurs:
- The output turns off.
- The I/O status indicator for the output flashes red.
- TheI.Outputxx.Faulttag is set to 1.
When the short-circuit condition is removed, the following occurs:
- The output restarts in its commanded state.
- The I/O status indicator for the output follows the commanded state (off or steady yellow).
- If there are no other faults present, theI.Outputxx.Faulttag is reset to 0.
For more information on the maximum current that you can apply to an output, see the
PointMax I/O System Specifications Technical Data, publication 5034-TD001.
