Preface

This publication provides comprehensive guidance on how to use
FactoryTalk® Design Studio
to create and manage safety applications.
You can use
FactoryTalk® Design Studio
software to develop safety applications that support up to SIL 3 and PLe safety standards for devices such as locking guard doors, emergency stops, safety light curtains, removable guards, safety mats, and pull cords. With a safety-enabled controller, the application can communicate with safety I/O devices over an
EtherNet/IP
network or local backplane. The controller can communicate with local standard and safety I/O while the controller communicates with remote safety I/O through the Ethernet ports.
You must be familiar with how to create and configure projects in
FactoryTalk® Design Studio
.
FactoryTalk® Design Studio
software supports the following devices in safety applications.
  • Controllers:
    • ControlLogix®
      5590 (revision 38 or later)
