Tian Yuan Machinery (TYC), a leading industrial chain manufacturer in Taiwan with over 70 years of history, supplies power transmission and conveyance products to over 30 countries across the transportation, construction, and agriculture sectors. To further enhance product quality and production flexibility, TYC has demonstrated a strong commitment to digital transformation and smart manufacturing. As the first company in Taiwan to adopt the Plex cloud-based Manufacturing Execution System (MES). TYC sets a strong benchmark for machinery manufacturers transitioning from traditional operations to cloud-based digital manufacturing.

Challenge
  • Fragmented legacy manufacturing execution systems, many of which were customized to meet specific customer requirements, limiting scalability
  • Limited visibility into production and quality processes
  • Heavy reliance on paper-based and manual processes across the plant
Solution
  • Plex Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
  • Plex Quality Management System (QMS)
Result
  • Improved first-pass yield in initial inspections from 70% to 85%, reducing risk of rework and quality issues
  • Increased on-time delivery from 80% to over 90%, enhancing delivery reliability
  • Improved material flow and inventory management by setting and continuously tracking quarterly work-in-progress (WIP) inventory reduction targets, with results maintained within ±5% of the targets.
  • Continued to optimize standard labor hours and set reduction targets of 5%–20% for each production process, progressively enhancing labor efficiency.

Challenge

TYC provides highly customized, integrated services to its customers. Traditionally, the company relied on manufacturing management systems tailored to specific customer requirements. However, this approach constrained its long-term scalability and digital advancement. Given its high-mix, low-volume manufacturing model, the fragmented system architecture also increased the complexity of production scheduling, quality control, and process tracking, prompting TYC to reassess its existing manufacturing management approach.

Solution

By leveraging the Plex Manufacturing Execution System as its digital core, TYC has built a scalable, standardized and unified cloud-based digital manufacturing platform:

  • Established a centralized digital production management platform that integrates previously fragmented and siloed systems and workflows, enabling end-to-end production visibility and improving traceability, delivery management, production efficiency, and the company’s ability to meet compliance requirements.
  • Implemented modular applications, including the Plex Quality Management System (QMS), equipment maintenance, and mold management, to transform its overall operating model and improve internal operational efficiency through digital capabilities.
  • Leveraged the scalability and flexibility of the Plex cloud architecture to establish a foundation for next-phase digital twin, Internet of Things (IoT), and automation applications, while supporting future plant expansion and global operations.

Result

TYC successfully completed the go-live of the Plex cloud-based MES within eight months, enhancing production transparency and real-time data utilization. The company achieved measurable improvements in quality management, production delivery, and operational efficiency.

At the same time, TYC leveraged digital transformation to drive energy conservation and carbon reduction across its plant, fulfill its commitment to green operations, and establish a solid foundation for sustainable development.

“Through Rockwell Automation’s Plex Manufacturing Execution System, we have deeply integrated decades of manufacturing expertise with digital technology. This transformation goes beyond upgrading our legacy systems and establishes a scalable digital architecture that makes data the driving force behind operational improvement while continuously enhancing product quality and delivery efficiency,”

Hui-Hsien Chiang - TYC General Manager

Looking ahead, TYC will continue leveraging digital technology to build upon its decades of manufacturing expertise, further advancing data-driven process optimization and embracing the limitless possibilities of the AI era. TYC believes that a comprehensive and robust data foundation will be essential to its continued evolution.

By laying the groundwork today, the company aims to enable future AI technologies to realize their full potential and create momentum for its long-term growth.
