Machine Builder (OEM) Solutions
What Matters
Global Partnerships Matter
As an OEM, your reputation rests on building machines that meet your customers' specific performance and reliability demands. But you're also working to differentiate your machines in a competitive global environment that requires you to define value beyond cost by building machines with different levels of automation and complexity, as well as different support, cost and compliance requirements. To succeed in this challenging business environment, you need an automation supplier who can not only offer you a full range of solutions on a scalable basis, but can also deliver the right balance of products, expertise and global aftermarket support.
Proving Your Value
Increased global competition has trapped some OEMs in a downward price spiral in an effort to offer the lowest bid. These OEMs get caught up in "purchase price," which Rockwell Automation estimates is only 40 percent of the average total cost of ownership of a machine. Rockwell Automation works to help OEMs prove their actual value by demonstrating the savings they provide in terms of engineering, maintenance, training, disposal, parts and service, installation, and downtime.
The Right Partner and the Right Fit
Many OEMs rely on Rockwell Automation to provide them with both the technology and the specialized knowledge they need to meet today's demanding machine performance and reliability requirements. Case in point: Stock America is an OEM that builds batch sterilizers for food and pharmaceutical processors. When the company decided to replace its proprietary data acquisition and transfer system with a commercial off-the-shelf solution, it wanted a supplier that would be able to keep up with industry software changes and new government regulations. It found precisely what it was looking for with Rockwell Automaton.
"As a small OEM, it's tough to stay on top of all the new government regulations impacting automation," said Tim Schurr, senior controls engineer, Stock America. "But Rockwell Automation is closely involved with many of these development activities, so they constantly build the latest requirements into their products. This allows us to offer the most up-to-date features to customers without having to be experts ourselves."
Meeting Your Support Challenges
Building machines that offer the latest features, maximum performance and the lowest total cost of ownership is no easy task. Not only that, you are increasingly being asked to provide additional support for the machines you supply. Such support can prove to be a powerful tool in differentiating your machines from the competition. But in the global marketplace, providing world-class support is a formidable challenge. That's where the extensive global reach of Rockwell Automation comes into play.
With more than 450 sales or support locations in 80 different countries, the supply and support network of Rockwell Automation is unparalleled in scope. Global Partnershpi Highlights
OEM Competency Centers
To help you optimize your machine development process, Rockwell Automation has established two European OEM Competency Centers — one in Crewe, UK and the other in Bologna, Italy. Both are fully equipped with electrical and mechanical systems to allow solutions to be built for all the most common configurations. OEMs use these facilities not only for proof-of-concept purposes, but also to encourage dialogue with technical experts in order to find the best solutions to customer problems. This enables engineers to experiment and test the interaction between all aspects of machine control in a real but safe environment.
