Quotes
Driver Denny Hamlin on racing at Las Vegas…
"It is going to be an exciting race this weekend at Las Vegas. The track is super fast has a ton of grip. We tested there in January and it took a little while to get it figured out, but by the afternoon session we got the car really good especially on long runs. Now with the changes to the tire and fuel cell, we are going to have to make some adjustments. The new rules (17 gallon) are going to force us to focus on making the car much better on short runs. I don’t think we will see a shortage of caution flags this weekend. Fortunately, this is my second season that Dave (Rogers) and I have worked together and he does a great job at taking my information and getting the car up to speed quickly."
Crew Chief Dave Rogers on Las Vegas…
"We are going to have a little work to do this weekend, but I have a great team with me and we are up to the challenge. We were a little behind at the test, but came home and worked on a lot of things to be better. The car we are bringing would have been great at California, but I didn't want to take a chance of denting it up before this weekend. The new rules change things a bit, but it also plays to some of our strengths. I think we have one of the best pit crews on pit road, so the more stops the better."
Notes
Last Week — At the Busch race at Mexico City, Hamlin turned in his best finish of the season (2nd). This finish propelled Hamlin up three places in the Busch Series points to 2nd. This is the fourth time Hamlin has held the 2nd point’s position, the most recent coming last season following the Milwaukee Mile race. Hamlin has never held the top spot in the Busch Series Driver's points and will have to make up 40 points on Carl Edwards if he hopes to gain that top spot this season. Hamlin is not scheduled compete in the next three Busch Series Races (Atlanta, Bristol or Nashville).
Car History — This week the #20 team is bringing car #2073. This car is one of two brand new cars built for intermediate tracks. This car preformed a little better at the wind tunnel than its sister car #2071 so it was brought for the Las Vegas test in January. This will be its first race of the year.
