IEC Motor Control and Protection Devices
IEC motor control and protection devices have been tested and certified for High Fault Short Circuit Combination Ratings with fuses and molded case circuit breakers. The following tables provide the combination information between the branch circuit protection devices, contactors and overloads, covering 380..575V, 50/60Hz.
According to IEC 947-4-1
- Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear, Part 4: Contactors and motor starters,
- Section One — Electromechanical contactors and motor-starters
Two types of coordination are permissible:
- Type "1" coordination requires that, under short-circuit conditions, the contactor or starter shall cause no danger to persons or installation and shall be suitable for further use. The risk of contact welding is recognized, in which case the manufacturershall indicate the measures to be taken as regards the maintenance of equipment.
To give our customers technical support in product selection we are providing tables of starter combinations that meet type "1" coordination as well as tables of starter combinations that meet type "2" coordination. These tables are published in our catalogs.
The tables are based on short-circuit tests according to IEC 947-4-1 carried out at the High Current Test Laboratories of Rockwell Automation in Milwaukee Wisconsin and Aarau Switzerland.
- 3 Component Starters — 50 Hz (motor circuit protector + contactor + overload relay)
- 3 Component Starters — 60 Hz (motor circuit protector + contactor + overload relay)
- 3 Component Starters — 60 Hz (fuses + contactor + overload relay)
- 2 Component Combination Controller — 60 Hz (molded case circuit breaker + contactor)
