FIRST Robotics Returns to Automation Fair!
Spectators are sure to be engaged as high school teams showcase their FIRST robots once again on the Automation Fair show floor. Among all the sophisticated automation products and systems you'll see at Automation Fair, the FIRST Robotics booth may remind you why you first became interested in engineering.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a not-for-profit organization, was founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen. FIRST's vision is to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes.
The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a unique varsity sport of the mind designed to help high school-aged young people discover how interesting and rewarding the life of engineers and researchers can be. FRC challenges teams of young people and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard "kit of parts" and a common set of rules. FIRST redefines winning for these students because they are rewarded for excellence in design, demonstrated team spirit, gracious professionalism and maturity, and the ability to overcome obstacles. Scoring the most points is secondary.
FIRST also offers the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), a more affordable and accessible program for high school students, the FIRST LEGO League for 9 to 14 year-olds and the Junior FIRST Lego League for 6 to 9 year-olds.
Rockwell Automation is pleased to partner with FIRST as its after-school pillar program. FIRST was selected to help Rockwell Automation build a global pipeline of students and internship opportunities. "FIRST empowers students to realize that they are in charge of their own destiny and inspires them to excel in the challenges of life" as noted by a Rockwell Automation manager and National FRC Judge. Rockwell Automation proudly sponsors the Rockwell Automation Innovation in Control Award given away at each FIRST regional and at the national championship.
Some of these innovative robotic developments will be displayed at the Automation Fair exhibit, where Automation Fair attendees can meet members of the FIRST community to learn how to get involved, and speak with Rockwell Automation representatives on the benefits of becoming FIRST sponsors.
