Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)

California

Effective January 1, 2007, California law banned the sale of some electronic devices containing certain hazardous substances, specifically lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium. The Electronic Waste Recycling Act (EWRA) prohibits "covered electronic devices" from being "sold" or "offered for sale" in California if they are prohibited for sale in the European Union under Directive 2002/95/EC due to the presence of these heavy metals. Covered electronic devices, as defined in the California Code of Regulations — Public Resources Code Section 42463, apply to devices with a video display greater than four inches measured diagonally.
